Viva Las Vegans - The world's first vegan comedy night heads up north to Cantina

On March 29th, our very own Cantina will be welcoming the world’s first ever vegan comedy club up north. That’s right, it’s not just the food we’re into – apparently, it’s the humour too.

On March 29th, our very own Cantina will be welcoming the world’s first ever vegan comedy club up north. That’s right, it’s not just the food we’re into – apparently, it’s the humour too.

The evening’s opening-act will be none-other than local Leeds lad Jim Bayes. Touted by BBC Humber as “One to watch out for”, he’s bound to set the tone and kick-start the laughs. Make sure to get down early to catch his spot.

Next up will be Comedy Sportz – an improv troupe from the North-West specialising in off-the-cuff sketches and quick-fire banter. Two teams of comedy-athletes will battle it out head-to-head to see who can raise the roof and bag the biggest laughs. Yorkshire Times gave them their seal of approval, describing them as “…quick, witty, sometimes ingenious and more often than not – just down-right silly.” So, it looks like we’re in for a treat – who knows what could happen?

Your headline act will be none-other than Chris Stokes. You’ll have no-doubt seen Chris on the telly or online with his not-so-serious short-films about the day-to-day "struggles" of veganism. If you haven’t seen one already, take a look here. Chris is a seasoned pro when it comes to the funny business having appeared multiple times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and fundraisers for The Vegan Society and The Humane Society. Not only that, but he recently supported Milton Jones – and will be heading out on the road later this year as part of the “Milton Jones Is Out There” tour. Whether you’re vegan or not – you’re in for a treat with this guy.

The ever charismatic Matt Hoss will be the compere for the evening. Described by indie online rag NARC. Magazine as, “Warm and endearingly funny”, it’s safe to say we’ll be in good hands all night.

Cantina will be whipping up some tongue-in cheek comedy inspired vegan grub to munch on. We just couldn’t resist getting involved in the action too!
